If you're going to have a fighting game location in China, you might as well have it in Shanghai. Even though the only true Chinese fighter in the Street Fighter universe is Chun-Li, almost every game in the series has had a Chinese location. It just seems like a perfect fit for fighting, and the fighting arena that the teams jump into here seems like a perfect fit for them. In traditional Chinese fashion, the hundreds of patrons that are watching the fight have likely placed bets on the outcome of the bout.
This stage has the most dynamic background in the game. It's not every day that you see the whole stage rotating around you (or rather, you rotating around in the center of the stage), and it can sometimes be a bit distracting, as even though you might not be moving, the stage is. Although the basic background of the stage is a duplicate of itself on either side as it rotates, the cameos in the background are different each time, so look out for them!
