The US qualifiers for the Super Battle Opera tournament took place on April 3rd and 4th. The weekend before, FFA prepared most of Southern California's best with tournaments held in the same format as SBO.
The format is as follows: Players are required to lock in their teams for the duration of a qualifying tournament. (Players can switch if they go to the second chance qualifiers.) The first chance double elimination tournament is held, with the top four advancing into the round robin final. Everyone else who did not advance (and others who are late for the first tournament) take part in a second chance double-elim tournament, with the top four from that also advancing into the 8-player round robin final. The survivors then play each other, and the player with the best record is declared the winner.
The entry fee for the first tournament was $3, with 15 players signing up. The second run through was $2, and 13 people took a shot at it. The top three in the round robin split the $71 pot 60/30/10, with a cool $42 going to the winner.

The second tournament was not played out, as it was starting to get a little late and everyone wanted to get on with the round robin.
Since there were a lot of matches, we grabbed as great of a variety of them as possible. We could have captured more, but we ran out of battery juice in our camera. Buy hey, 20 matches ain't bad! Refer to this page to see which characters were used in each match, then head over to the video page and get them.
